A crescent moon rises from a bed of restless clouds, suspended between two worlds. The moon's matte white surface is pocked with craters — quiet, still, ancient — while below, the clouds churn with a deep mirror glaze, their spiral forms drawn from Japanese artistic tradition. In Japanese-American experience, this tension is familiar: the luminous and the turbulent, the serene and the churning, forever holding each other up.
An original hand-sculpted ceramic sculpture exploring the visual language of Japanese and American artistic identity, the interplay of matte and mirror glaze gives the piece a quiet power: stillness above, movement below.
