Daruma - だるま
Mug Slip-cast porcelain
8”x5”x5”
He sits as he always has — rooted, still, unseeing. Daruma reimagines Bodhidharma, the monk credited as the father of Zen Buddhism, through the lens of the iconic Japanese daruma doll: limbless after seven years of unbroken meditation, his white eyes blank with the clarity that comes only after everything else falls away. This is not a portrait of loss — it is a portrait of arrival.
Hand-sculpted in oil-based clay and cast from an original three-piece plaster mold in porcelain slip, each mug carries the weight of that process — a functional object rooted in ritual, tradition, and quiet obsession.
